Sphinx Moth!

I believe this is a white-lined sphinx moth (Hyles lineata) that I saw while watering plants!

Sphinx moth - brown and white striped with beautiful pink coloring lower on its wings - nestled in the leaves of a garden plant.

I love the pink on their wings! In addition to being beautiful, moths have important roles in our ecosystems:

“[Moths] pollinate a wide variety of native plants, helping maintain genetic diversity. As decomposers, they break down dead organic matter and return nutrients to the soil. They also provide food for other insects and omnivorous vertebrates including birds, bats, frogs, rodents, and even bears.”
