Summer Wildflowers: Purple Prairie Clover

These are one of my favorite summer wildflowers - I love how it looks like they are wearing a crown!

Pollinators also love these plants - you will often see bumblebees enjoying purple prairie clover!

You can recognize purple prairie clover (Dalea purpurea) easily from its unique bottom-to-top growth pattern and vivid petals. This plant grows from late May to September in the Great Plains (including eastern Colorado - I have observed this plant outside Manitou Springs on the Front Range!).
